Cast silicon, magnesium and copper-alloyed aluminium can offer mechanical and corrosion resistance across a range of applications, as a lightweight alternative to copper alloys and ferrous materials.
LM4 and LM6 are described as suitable for general engineering, from intricate thin-walled castings to larger castings, with good corrosion resistance. Solution treatment and ageing can achieve high strength and ductility.
LM25 is used across industries from food to road transport and is described as a general-purpose high-strength casting alloy, available in four conditions of heat treatment. The source technical table lists grades LM0, LM4 M, LM4 TF, LM6, LM25 M, LM25 TB7 and LM25 TF to BS 1490.
