A cast-metal component being milled on a machine tool

Machining

From raw casting to finished component

A high-quality casting is only part of the solution. Many applications require precise machining to achieve the dimensional accuracy, surface finish and functional features needed for final assembly and performance.

At AATi, we can support your project from casting through to finished, machined component. By combining our foundry expertise with machining capability, we offer a one-stop solution that simplifies your supply chain, reduces unnecessary handling and gives you a single point of responsibility for the finished part.

Our key machining processes

  • Milling — Removes material using rotating cutting tools to produce accurate flat surfaces, slots, pockets and complex profiles.
  • Turning — Rotates the component against a cutting tool to create precise cylindrical features, diameters, bores and threads.
  • Drilling and Boring — Produces and finishes holes to the required position, diameter and tolerance, ensuring accurate interfaces for fasteners, fixings and assembly.
  • Grinding — Uses abrasive tools to achieve fine surface finishes and tight dimensional tolerances where the application demands additional precision.

One partner. One complete solution.

Managing a foundry and a separate machine shop can introduce unnecessary complexity. If a casting arrives with insufficient machining allowance, unexpected distortion or dimensional issues, customers can find themselves caught in the middle, with each supplier relying on the other to resolve the problem.

Our integrated approach helps reduce this risk. By considering machining requirements during the initial casting design, we can help ensure that allowances, geometries and critical features are appropriate for the complete manufacturing process. This allows casting and machining decisions to be coordinated from the outset, helping improve manufacturability, control costs and reduce the risk of delays.

Most importantly, we add value to your design. By applying our understanding of casting and machining together, we can identify opportunities to simplify manufacture, improve functionality and deliver a component that meets your technical requirements without unnecessary complexity.

From initial design discussions to a fully machined part ready for its next stage of assembly or installation, AATi provides a coordinated route from concept to finished component.

Your design. Our manufacturing expertise. One partner, from casting to completion.
