Material Testing

Sound metal. Proven properties. Consistent quality.

The quality of a casting starts with the quality of the metal itself. Achieving reliable, high-performance castings requires careful control of material composition and mechanical properties, ensuring the finished component performs as intended.

At AATi, material testing is an important part of our commitment to manufacturing high-quality castings. Through routine spectrographic analysis, hardness testing and tensile testing, we can assess the composition and properties of our metal, helping to maintain consistency, verify material requirements and identify potential issues before they affect the finished product.

Our key material testing processes

  • Spectrographic Analysis — Determines the chemical composition of the metal, allowing us to verify alloy content against the required specification. This helps ensure the correct material is used and supports consistent metallurgical quality from batch to batch.
  • Hardness Testing — Measures the metal’s resistance to indentation, providing a practical indication of its hardness and, where appropriate, its response to heat treatment. This helps verify that the material meets the required properties for its intended application.
  • Tensile Testing — Measures key mechanical properties, including tensile strength, yield strength and elongation. These results help establish how the material responds to applied loads, providing evidence that it meets the specified mechanical requirements.

Confidence built on evidence

Material testing provides more than a set of test results. It gives us the information needed to control our processes, verify material quality and make informed technical decisions throughout production.

By routinely checking chemical composition and mechanical properties, we can identify deviations, reduce the risk of non-conforming material and improve consistency between castings and production batches. For our customers, this means greater confidence in the material being supplied, fewer unwelcome surprises during manufacture or installation, and assurance that critical requirements are being checked rather than simply assumed.

We work with you to understand the demands of your application and the standards your component must meet. From alloy composition to mechanical performance, we can advise on the appropriate testing requirements and help ensure the finished casting is supported by relevant material evidence.

Exceptional castings start with sound metal. Our commitment to material testing helps ensure the quality is built in from the beginning.
