Ferrous Metals

Grey iron, SG iron and specialist alloy cast irons for engineered performance.

Metallurgical control of constituent elements allows production of traditional cast irons with vibration absorption and mechanical properties, especially in compression. Applications described include machine beds, pump and valve bodies, and components for automotive, marine, artistic and infrastructure uses.

Spheroidal Graphitic (SG) iron modifies the carbon structure of grey cast iron before casting. This creates a more ductile material, often chosen in place of steel castings or fabricated components for its ductility, castability and weldability.

High-nickel, chromium and other specialist alloy irons can be used where resistance to abrasion, corrosion, elevated or cycling temperatures and impact is required. High Si Mo irons are used for high-temperature creep and stress-rupture performance; Ni Hard irons offer Brinell hardness above 450 for abrasive environments.

The source technical schedules reference Grey Cast Iron to BS EN 1561:2011 and Ductile Iron (SG) to BS EN 1563:2011. Current specifications should be confirmed with the foundry.
